Meet Rigmor Haga: a smart woman with passion for people, planet and politics. She is our Sustainability Manager in Easee. To her, sustainability means everything. She has worked within the field long before sustainability was a buzzword, and on everybody’s agenda. Long before it was mandatory for companies and organisations to incorporate it into their strategies.

– It is good that sustainability is finally getting attention, but I do spend a lot of time unpacking the concept to help people engage with it. And that’s ok. It’s a part of my job that I love, and an element I see as critical to enable change. The main challenge as I see it, is the holistic understanding that the issues within sustainability go hand in hand. Corruption affects climate change, and climate change affects human rights, and human rights affect climate action …I can go on and on! I can seriously go on and on.

The passion and engagement for sustainability has not changed for Rigmor during her career, quite the opposite. It goes way beyond just reusing, reducing and recycling your waste or keeping control of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions.

– Sustainability is becoming the buzzword of our generation and although I’ve been working within the field of sustainability for a long time, its core ideas haven’t changed much over this period.

Green-tech should be green

When talking about being a green-tech company, it should be about technology that reduces the human impact on the natural environment. In Easee we have committed ourselves not to use more of nature’s resources than necessary, and we currently work on our Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) so that we can continually reduce and improve our footprint. Our products are developed and manufactured in Norway and will be an essential part of the future power grid – a power grid that distributes electricity more efficiently and utilizes existing capacity in the best possible way.

– Our purpose is to ensure a focus on people and planet throughout our operations and production. This means identifying and managing a multitude of issues. The challenges that we face today under the sustainability umbrella are significant, and we would be naive to think that we could tackle these issues alone.

Easee’s product should (quite literally) be a part of the shift towards a greener and more sustainable society.

Easee joining UN Global Compact, RBA, Terravera and Position Green

In 2022 Easee became a proud member of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA), the United Nations Global Compact and the Terravera foundation. We have also chosen Position Green as our GHG reporting tool provider. These are important organizations to be part of, and are important tools to implement – with a shared commitment to make an impact in the world:

«The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. By becoming a member, Easee joins forces with thousands of companies committed to ensuring sustainable business practices. We hold ourselves accountable for transparent reporting on our progress and are committed to share and learn with others, thus accelerating the common effort towards a sustainable world. Together, we make a far greater impact. In Easee, we think of this as the first corner stone in our sustainability work.

By joining this initiative, Easee makes a clear commitment to respect human rights, protect the environment, work to prevent corruption and bribery, and to promote good labour conditions throughout our supply chain. Easee will report annually and transparently on our sustainability efforts in line with the UNGC framework.

«The Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) is the electronics industry’s shared initiative for sustainable supply chains. By working together with the rest of the industry through a shared set of standards, we get to focus our sustainable supply chain work on the issues that are material to our industry. The requirements and methods are aligned with others, thus making it clearer and easier to work with compliance and impact».

RBA is a data sharing platform for sustainability data in supply chain, and a member organisation where we can learn and share good practice with our peers. They will help us focus on key sustainability issues relevant to our industry.

«Terravera is non-profit tech foundation, and their mission is amazing: to empower everyone to make truly sustainable decisions. This means we can model and test hypotheses about things we can do to make our product more sustainable and make decisions about verified facts. How awesome is that? We are still in the scoping phase with Terravera, but I am truly excited about this work.

In addition to being member of these important global organizations, Easee has chosen Position Green as provider for our GHG reporting. Position Green provides a data-driven platform for our sustainability reporting. We are currently implementing the tool to gain control over our emissions and work in a targeted manner to reduce them.

Sustainability is part of everything we do, from design to development and production.

Easee’s Sustainable DNA

– My humble long-term goal for sustainability in Easee is to integrate it into our corporate DNA. With that I mean that we should be thinking people and planet in our day-to-day decisions in the same natural way as we’ve learned to think about financial implications. My personal vision would be a climate positive company that operates transparently and with the highest regards for human rights. If that is not ambitious enough for you, I would also love to see Easee able to give back more to people and planet than the resources it takes to operate. Easee has an ambition to be climate positive by 2050, so my objective is now to make it happen earlier than that.

Some of our short-term sustainability goals are to measure our impact through Life Cycle Assessments and GHG accounting. As part of our due diligence and understanding of our impact, we are conducting stakeholder dialogues to make sure that stakeholder concerns are understood and can be addressed. We recently completed a materiality assessment to help us pave a way forward that will help us focus on what matters most for our sustainability performance.

-When I say that sustainability means everything to me, it is because the sustainability efforts that we make today as a society will be critical in determining what type of future we leave to our children. It means that we can live in such a way that the planet can tolerate us for generations to come, and yet allow us to keep our vision of putting people first. To succeed with this, we need systemic change.

– My view is that business as usual is not an option anymore, and that the leaders of tomorrow are the businesses that understand this today.
